Road safety has always been a subject of heated controversy. Many people are killed by road accidents daily and many of these accidents happen due to the carelessness of drivers and pedestrians. We feel the need to be cautious when driving only when we face an accident of some sort and then it would be too late to think about what we should have done when we travel. So, we thought of sharing the stories of some car crash survivors who saved their lives because of wearing the seat belt and their stories would tell you how important it is to follow necessary precautions when you drive.

All these shocking portraits were actually done to make the general public aware about road safety and they really show you the importance of belting up. This project was initiated by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) to reduce the number of deaths on roads. According to the 90 people die each year just because of not wearing the seat belt and these portraits show 10 real-life car crash survivors who needed to make others aware about saving their lives/ these post-crash injuries were recreated by the SFX makeup company PRO FX.

Speaking of the project, Dr.Natasha McKay, the emergency medical specialist said that “A seatbelt really does leave a mark like this. They will save your life, but they will leave you a mark to show how they have done it”.

NZTA works closely with marketing communication company Clemenger BBDO and they want to change the attitude of some people who don’t follow up any precaution. Spokesperson Rachel Prince told Designboom that “we are selling an undesirable product to these guys. Research told us they think seatbelt messages are for kids. For the elderly, for everyone else. We worked with them to make the undesirable something they wanted to buy”.

When Willy Car berry was hit by a car back in 2014, he survived only because he was wearing the seat belt and he had the bruise mark across his chest to prove it.

His message to everyone was “Fucking put a
seatbelt on”. He says, “It never matter how short the trip is. You never know
who is going to come out of the intersection and t-bone ya, or reserve out of a
driveway, or an old lady going down the road, having a stroke”.

“If you don’t wear it, you are gambling with your life, if you ask me”.
