More than a week has passed, and the victims of Hurricane Helene are still waiting for meaningful action from the government. While devastated communities struggle with impassable roads and hundreds of unretrieved bodies, Crooked Joe Biden’s administration remains indifferent.
The communist Democrat-led federal government is not only ignoring the pleas of those affected but is actively blocking or restricting donations from private organizations willing to help.
Adding insult to injury, FEMA continues to prioritize illegal immigrants over American citizens, diverting critical resources to the Shelter and Services Program (SSP) instead of helping Hurricane Helene survivors rebuild their lives.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) recently introduced legislation to terminate this outrageous program, redirecting the remaining funds to assist Americans left behind during the disaster.
“It’s unacceptable for Americans to grapple with the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Helene while the federal government remains fixated on spending hundreds of millions on a program sheltering illegal immigrants instead of helping our citizens,” Rep. Mace stated.
“Our bill will make sure funds meant for disaster relief are utilized where they are needed most—actual disaster relief.”
Mace’s bill comes at a time when a whistleblower exposed FEMA for allocating over $1 billion to provide hotel accommodations, food, healthcare, and other services to illegal immigrants while American families are scraping by with a mere $750 in relief.
These Americans, many of whom have lost everything, are now being told there simply isn’t enough money to go around—yet the Biden administration continues its reckless spending on migrants under the guise of “humanitarian aid.”
“Kamala Harris and Alejandro Mayorkas have turned FEMA into a migrant resettlement agency,” Mace added. “It’s time to end this mess.”
The Biden-Harris regime’s blatant mismanagement of FEMA, coupled with its refusal to prioritize American lives, makes it clear that political agendas and open-border policies are more important to them than real disaster recovery.
FEMA’s data reveals that its misallocation of resources has left over 614 major disaster declarations unresolved, with some dating back nearly two decades.
“It’s outrageous to see American communities reeling from Hurricane Helene’s devastation while FEMA, under the Department of Homeland Security, claims to be out of money—after diverting hundreds of millions of dollars to resettle illegal immigrants,” Mace stated.
Rep. Mace’s bill, which was co-sponsored by nine other Republicans, serves as a direct response to what she describes as a federal government that has “turned a blind eye and a deaf ear” to Americans’ suffering.
Instead, the Biden administration has chosen to play politics with disaster relief, pushing funds toward noncitizens rather than providing the support that U.S. citizens deserve.
With Americans still struggling to recover from Hurricane Helene, Mace’s bill offers a much-needed solution to refocus FEMA’s mission and ensure disaster relief funds go where they are needed most: to Americans.
As Mace rightly stressed, “We need to ensure American families have the support they need in times of crisis, and our disaster response agencies are prioritizing the immediate needs of those affected by natural disasters.”
