This video is only a few minutes. But trust me when I say this, it is worthy of an award.
A goat and a rooster teamed up to save their chicken friend from a hawk attack at a farm in the Netherlands. It all lasts only a few moments but those few moments are very dramatic. Fortunately, everything was recorded on a CCTV camera.
Everybody is minding their own business when the dramatic events take place. Breaking the calm, a hawk appears all of sudden and it has only one thing in its mind. Turning the poor chicken into its dinner. The hawk attacks and it looks like all is lost for the chicken. With feathers flying everywhere, it sure is a losing battle for the chicken. However, lucky for him, the events take a drastic turn as the rooster and the goat decide to intervene.
First, seeing the chicken being attacked, a rooster rushes to help. Second, later, he is joined by another pal, a goat. Without hesitating, they both try to help the chicken. Fighting against the sharp claws of the predatory bird, the duo succeeds at saving their chicken pal.
Jaap Beets is the owner of the farm. He didn’t see the events taking place but he later learned what happened and watched the CCTV footage. Even though the video is only 17 seconds, he said that he is extremely proud of his animals. He further added that it wasn’t the first time that chickens were saved by other animals. In fact, it was a goat and turkey that saved the chicken the last time, he says.
“I was so proud of the rooster and the goat jumping in to defend our chicken,” Beets said. “I was also very relieved that the chicken survived. I heard the screaming animals but it was too late to see the attacker so I checked the CCTV. It took only 17 seconds between the appearance and disappearance of the hawk.”
“Thankfully, [it] only had two minor wounds,” the farmer added. “It took her a few days to get back to normal. The other birds rallied around and kept her company.”
